The King Is Dead, and an Era Comes to an End

History
History

King David IV of the Weston Kingdom, the revered leader who preserved his nation’s victory and dignity in the aftermath of the Total War, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 23rd, A.G. 2021. He was 92 years old.

During his sixty-year reign, David IV stood alongside his father, Charles IV, through the trials of war, forging a will of steel and unshakable resolve. Upon ascending the throne, he faced waves of revolutionary fervor and challenges to royal authority, yet maintained the kingdom’s stability with measured silence and unyielding strength—ensuring Weston always remained a victor in the shaping of the new world order.

He assumed the crown in July A.G. 1961, after the death of Charles IV. The kingdom, still recovering from the shadow of war, found renewed strength in the seamless transfer of power—hailed at the time as a "postwar tonic" that lifted the national spirit. As both a participant in building peace and a symbolic anchor of international stability in his later years, David IV became a quiet yet steadfast presence on the world stage, embodying Christian traditional values throughout.

The early death of his eldest son, Prince William, struck him like a belated warning bell, plunging him into sorrow. In those dark years, Prince John rallied the royal household and helped the king recover his strength. David once again took on the dual burdens of duty and family, guiding the hand of young Isabelle, his only grandchild and the sole heir left by his deceased son.

On the evening before his passing, the King spent a quiet night at Keilah Castle, a royal estate, with his family. His granddaughter and heir, Princess Isabelle—now Queen—was by his side.

Sion Palace* lowered its flags, and a ten-day national mourning period was declared. The Weston Broadcasting Corporation aired a solemn image of David IV in full regalia, fading gently to the national anthem, God Save the King, signaling the end of an era.

“The loss we have suffered, both as a nation and as a royal family, is immeasurable. He was the perfect sovereign, and a loving father. I grieve with the people.”

Sion Palace has confirmed that the Queen will return to Ordon* on Friday and is expected to deliver her first national address. In an era when monarchy has waned and global order has grown adrift, her accession has inspired both hope and uncertainty. Yet, as the Weston nursery rhyme goes, “God saves the King, but favors the Queen,” and many still believe that a new age has just begun.

* Total War (A.G. 1937–1946) was a global armed conflict involving nearly every major nation and power bloc. It is regarded as the most expansive industrial war in human history and a turning point for technological and geopolitical transformation.

* Sion Palace is the official royal residence of Weston, located in the Sacred Core district of the capital, Ordon. Built and remodeled in A.G. 1822 under King George I, it remains the ceremonial and administrative heart of the monarchy.

* Ordon is the capital city of the Weston Kingdom.
